MarketMuse is an AI content-strategy platform that scores how comprehensively a page covers a topic and turns that score into content briefs, outlines, and first-draft copy. It was acquired by Siteimprove in October 2024 and is aimed at content teams and agencies planning large content libraries.
SERP-based content briefs are a SERP API plus a hosted AI model; MarketMuse's Topic Authority and Personalized Difficulty scores come from a patented model built on its own web crawl.

Why people still pay
The brief-generation half is a realistic weekend build, but MarketMuse's Topic Authority and Personalized Difficulty scores come from a patented model built on its own web-scale crawl — there's no DIY substitute for that, so teams that specifically rely on those two metrics (not just briefs) are paying for something a script genuinely can't produce.

What it won't produce is a real Topic Authority or Personalized Difficulty number — those come from a patented model trained on MarketMuse's own web crawl, so any score your DIY version produces is a rough approximation, not the same measurement.

Yes — MarketMuse's Free tier gives one user 10 queries a month with no tracked topics or content briefs, mainly useful for trying the Topic Navigator and keyword tools before upgrading.
Does MarketMuse use ChatGPT or another AI model to write its First Draft content?
MarketMuse says First Draft runs on its own proprietary NLG technology trained on its topic models rather than wrapping a third-party model — that's a vendor claim we haven't independently verified.
What changed when Siteimprove acquired MarketMuse?
Siteimprove completed the acquisition in October 2024, and MarketMuse's pricing page dropped its public dollar figures shortly after, moving every paid tier behind a "book a demo" button.
